Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal disease affects your gums and surrounding bone, and once treated is easily maintained.

Plaque is a sticky substance and if not removed by simple brushing it turns into hard deposits called tartar. The large amounts of plaque cause the gum to recede and move away from the teeth leaving pockets down the side of the teeth, which destroys the supporting bone. Once the bacteria have got this far it is too far inside your gum for you to clean it and remove the bacteria.

Cleaning and Polishing provided by our Hygienists can remove the hard deposits you cannot remove with brushing alone.

Unlike tooth decay, which often causes discomfort, it is possible to have periodontal disease without noticeable symptoms.

Your Dentist will diagnose any problems and refer you to one of our Hygienists. The dentists work very closely with the Hygienist who is specially trained to educate you about why you have gum disease.
